Initiatives and Activities
The Drop-in
The Drop-in enjoys many activities throughout the year for example:
- trip to LA Bowl in Ayr for a game of ten pin bowling
- Volunteers giving cooking demonstrations using summer fruits
- attending Kaleidscope for annual garden party
- fun days at Pitch n and Put at Ayr
The Group also enjoy arts and crafts, games a light lunch is provided each week by Staff and Volunteers who have certificates in food hygiene. The Drop-in is open to community members throughout Upper Nithsdale and surrounding areas every Thursday between 11.00am - 1.00pm in The Cabin, Main Street, Kirkconnel.
Women's Active
This Group is designed by women for women and held every Monday 10.00am - 12 noon. The Group currently has approximately 25-30 participants and have enjoyed many activities which has included:
- trip to Blairdrummond Safari Park
- Old fashioned games which mum and gran use to play at Hillview Leisure Centre
- Can't Cook Won't Cook sessions
- Swim and Sauna trip to Sanquhar fun pool
- Relaxation therapy
The women carry out local fund raising events to sustain the group and new members are always welcome
Lifestyles
In partnership with Hillview Leisure Cente, Building Healthy Communities has started a 'Lifestyles' Group. This programme addresses issues such as, weight management, food and nutrition, cooking, physical activity and health and wellbeing and will impact on participants and families. The group meets at Hillview Leisure Centre, Kirkland Drive, Kirkconnel every Wednesday 10.00am - 12 noon. All welcome.
Cooking Projects
The Schools Cooking Project is in partnership with local schools in Upper Nithsdale engaging with children in Primary 6 addressing food and nutrition.
Kirkholm Crier
The Kirkholm Crier is a community Newsletter published everyone 3 months. It is compiled of articles from community members for community members. ATH Resources fund the printing costs and we are able to offer the Newsletter in audio tape format for the visually impaired or those individuals who may have literacy issues.
